UFC 217 Results: Champions Dethroned.
UFC 217 turned out to be an event where champions are finally dethroned.
As expected it turned out to be on par with expectations but some results especially the Women’s STRAWEIGHT DIVISION which was nothing but a shocker not only when it came to the victor but also the way it happened made us remember the RONDA ROUSEY way where nothing has a permanent stay at the top and you fall and when you fall can be pretty painful and humbling.
WOMEN’S STRAWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP:
JOANNA JEDREJCYZK the defending and champion from last 14 matches could stand all but 3 minutes before being slain by 25-year-old ROSE NAMAJUNAS.
The champion was the firm favourite but as it happens her overaggressive off-field attitude bordering on overconfident made her opponent who was calmer and more self-focused led to ROSE giving her how to behave and perform both outside and in the octagon and a fierce punch and the choke let to the JOANNA tap out which is no mean feat.
What made everyone respect the newly crowned champion was her after victory speech ‘WHAT MATTERS IS TO BE A GOOD HUMAN BEING, CHAMPIONSHIPS COME AND GO’
MEN’S MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP:
What will you say to someone who is out with the injury from last 4 years, has only caught in the WELTERWEIGHT division, comes and faces an opponent who is not only the undisputed champion in a higher category but also in top form goes by the name MICHAEL BISPING. Well no doubt all will stay it’s a tough task almost impossible but then nothing is impossible when you are a UFC fighter and more so if your name is GEORGES ST-PIERRE who not only matched punch to punch but in every department also got split wide open but in the 3rd round still slain the champion with submission techniques and intelligence.
UFC MIDDLEWEIGHT BOUT:
Remember the name PAULO COSTA, as this BRAZILIAN is going to be the futuristic deal as he seems on the right track by dismantling JOHNY HENDRICKS in 2 minutes of 2nd round which is no mean feat and extending his winning streak to 11-0, which may make him legendary unless he self-destructs or becomes overconfident, which in his victory speech was evident. Till then since the ball is rolling for the powerful fighter both in the ring and when it comes to popularity with fairer sex we all give him some space as he is only 26 and hopefully will mellow and humble with time and the right place.
UFC BANTAMWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP:
T.J.DILSHAW the world no2 destroyed CODY GABRANDTH the defending champion in 2minutes 47 seconds an affair which was as one-sided as it comes.
