Sunshine’s on the BRITISH EMPIRE as far as DAVIS CUP goes after 79 years as their cup team of JAMIE MURRAY, ANDY MURRAY, DOMINIC INGLOT, JAMES WARD, DANIEL EVANS, KYLE EDMUND beat hosts BELGIUM at GHENT, image_113

image_112The hero of their triumph was non-other than former WIMBLEDON CHAMPION ANDY MURRAY, who had already said “winning it was his ultimate desire”.

MURRAY slew DAVID GOFFIN after a 3-hour battle 6-3,7-5,6-3, on his least favored surface Clay, in the 4th tie to make it 3-1 in the 5match finals.

Credit also to the coach n nonplaying captain LEON SMITH, who guided them from the Third tier (they were out of world group into relegation) to the ultimate pedestal in 5 years.image_116

That CUP is still shinning glory for many tennis players can be gauged from MURRY’S reaction image_115

and subsequent quote “It’s my most memorable moment on the court”

The 2015 Davis Cup was the 104th edition of the cup, a tournament between national teams in men’s tennis. It was sponsored by BNP Paribas. Great Britain won their tenth title (their first since 1936), with Andy Murray defeating David Goffin of Belgium on clay in the final match held at Flanders Expo located in Ghent on 29 November 2015.

The win was Great Britain’s first Cup victory since 1936 when Fred Perry and Bunny Austin contributed to a final win against Australia. Andy Murray became only the third player, after John McEnroe and Mats Wilander, to win the maximum eight singles matches in a Davis Cup tournament. With his three victories in doubles matches with his brother, he also became only the fourth man to win 11 points in a tournament. Meanwhile, The Indian team performed terribly in this edition of the tournament and we hope next time it will play better than this to bring the cup at home.
