Two Hollywood Films, The Greatest Showman and JumanJi will hit the theatres in absence of Hindi Release this week as Tiger Zinda hai is ruling the box office.
JUMANJI 2: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE
DIRECTED by JAKE KASDAN is a first directorial venture for this 43 year old who has been a producer for almost two decades be it ZERO EFFECT (1998) or SEX TAPE (2014).
Will he be able to do justice to the highly entertaining movie by the same name and game JUMANJI which when released in 1995 and became one of the favourite family movies of all time and made the lead the late great ROBBIN WILLIAMS a household name.
The original one was directed by JOE JOHNSTON who went on to direct JURASSIC PARK 3 and also the 1st part of CAPTAIN AMERICA series.
The difference in the budget of the original and current is almost 40 million dollars as the latest venture cost almost 90 million dollars though will it be able to earn 100 million gross in USA and 262 million gross worldwide which the original achieved in 1995 and was no mean feat will be interesting to see.
Initial reports are looking very positive and so are the collections but does it really matter what world does when it comes to self styled intelligent public of the great nation of BHARAT is anyone’s guess.
CAST does matter when it comes to worldwide impact and here is where Jungle will be welcomed with open arms in most parts of the world as its got one of the rare universal superstars besides the superheroes their seem to be only a few that’s what DWAYNE JOHNSON can do.
What’s going against this 1 hour 59 minutes movie in India in terms of the original is rarely known to the new genre but on flip side it can be a advantage as no baggage no living up to expectations so it can be fun also because it concerns a video game so most should relate, if and only if TIGER can be tamed as of now he at even 52 demands nothing but unadulterated love and fame.
THE GREATEST SHOWMAN
DIRECTED by MICHEAL GRACEY who is making his full fledged debut (before trying his hand at NARUTO and THE MUPPET MAN) via this musical and most of the time such movies never miss the collection bus. So will he shine only time will tell but if initial reports are any indication he has come up with an apt 84 million dollar family musical though will it work is anyone guess right as in today’s time only the SUPERHEROES have the might.
CAST is as good as it gets with JACKMAN making it a huge movie but in reality take the XMEN out of JACKMAN which makes it altogether a different ballgame. Giving him company is ZAC EFRON and the rest thus it should be on the right track as far as performances go.
Now the question arises will it work in BHARAT and if the movie is a musical with 11 memorable songs (HUM APKE HAIN KAUN) it should definitely but not surprisingly, not because Indians already have enough on their plates when it comes to songs and dance also TIGER ZINDA HAI, unless the population for good cinema has suddenly risen from ashes.
Hopefully both movies find some takers and get good collections which they deserve. If it happens will open a new avenue for next Christmas as more releases making public spoilt for choices.
