PREMIER BADMINTON LEAGUE 2017
CHENNAI SMASHERS were able to edge past MUMBAI ROCKETS in a pulsating battle which went to the wire and lift the PBL 2017 title. The player who rose to the occasion and stamped his example on the saying “When the Going gets tough, The tough gets going”, was Thailand’s T. SAENSOMBOONSUK who beat AJAY JAYRAM, by coming back from a set down in the decider 9-11,11-7,11-3, as till then he had a pretty ordinary league, as had only won two out of his eight matches.
For Ajay it was a gut wrenching Runners up experience second year in running. Earlier Olympic silver medalist and captain of Chennai Smasher’s P.V. SINDHU played a pivotal role in anchoring her team to victory. In a crucial women’s singles, Sindhu once again got the better of World number 3 SUNG JI HYUN 11-8,11-8 ( TRUMP MATCH), whom she had decimated in the league phase clash too.Such was the dominance of current Indian ace that except her 1st match loss to current world number one and Hyderabad acers trump player CAROLINE MARIN, she steamrolled all her opponents.
Invincible HS PRANNOY won all his matches in the league, rose to the occasion like a GLADIATOR whenever MUMBAI ROCKETS were in direct straits of points. His victory over another giant in Indian Badminton P.KASHYAP 11-4,8-11,11-10 as the main reason the final reached to such heights.
The mixed doubles duo of husband and wife never missed when it mattered, whosoever had doubts that couples can’t be on the same page always, should watch Chennai Smasher’s CHRIS ADCOCK/GABRIELLE ADCOCK perform on the court the camaraderie they showcase is a living example.
CHENNAI SMASHERS 4 beat MUMBAI ROCKETS 3

HS Prannoy bt P Kashyap 11-4,8-11,11-8
T.SAENSOMBOONSUK bt AJAY
CHENNAI SMASHERS 4 bt AWADHE WARRIORS 1
SINDHU bt SAINA NEHWAL
Not only the highlight of the semi-finals but the Dream match everyone wanted to see and wished badly, at last, had got what they wanted, though the clash was of the titans and the atmosphere stupendous, the result was never in doubt as SINDHU after few close points took control maintained her hold against her more experienced opponent.
SAINA NEHWAL understandably is going through a period where not only she is coming back from long injury layoff but also suddenly the spotlight is on someone else and frankly that’s not easy for any champion to digest. How she deals and ultimately conquers her inner doubts and also the psychological at the back of the mind injury concern only time will tell.
Those who planning to write her off, well can do at their own risk as The girl who brought Indian Badminton to such a pedestal where it is now and inspired a many resulting in a Olympic silver medalist, will definitely strike back I am sure ,we just have to wait for some more tournaments match practice and Indian Badminton will be having two powerhouses at its disposal.
MUMBAI ROCKETS 3 bt HYDERABAD HUNTERS 1
The anticipated rematch and the battle which was going to heavily help the winners team to go through the all-important semifinals once again as she did in the league phase, saw World no 3 Sung Ji Hyun get the better of World no1 Caroline Marine 6-11,11-6,11-5.

REALITY BITES – How ironical the sport or in other words the fitness mantra for many be it a professional in any other Games to a layman who just needs to give his fitness a boost swear by BADMINTON,and that very struggles when it comes to garnering viewership in terms of comparisons with big daddy’s like FOOTBALL etc.
To give credit where it’s due, WORLD FEDERATION BADMINTON is trying to make the sport more TV-friendly ,and reducing the point system from 21 to 11 per game in some tournaments is a welcome change though many players have shown their dismay as it gives them less or no time to make a comeback when chips are down but if players make the sport then audience is the oxygen which keeps it afloat.
One thing more will go in a long way of increasing visual popularity is by changing the color of the shuttle from white to easier to trace color.
UNIVERSAL EXAMPLE – That BADDY is the most trusted when it comes to sure shot transformation can be seen from the leading man of Bollywood’s Ghajini to 3idiots.
Fitness mantra – So all those who want to be fit then run fast + badminton = 6pack and be a hit.
