Yes, Prem is Back but it was not required at all. Its been 4 days since the release and PRDP has already made a lot of money at the box office and trust me its only because Salman Khan is there in it and he is having the best time of his career ever. To begin with, when I entered in the theatre and just after few minutes I thought Sooraj Barjatya lifted the portion from a long forgotten flop film, Harry Baweja’s Deewane (Does anyone Remember it?), which itself was inspired by Ranjit Barot’s Don. But as the film progressed I thought as if Subhash Ghai’s Salman Starrer ‘Yuvraaj’ is going on screen. Similar to PRDP, Yuvraaj was too a magnum opus, It too had a Beautiful Heroine, It too had a flop hero in Zayed Khan like here is Neil Nitin Mukesh, It too dealt with a royal family and the problems between Brothers and sisters, It too gave the same message of ‘Family which lives together stays together’ which have been exploited by the Indian Cinema thousand times I guess. But Yuvraaj Scored over PRDP in music Department, A. R. Rehman definately gave more classy music than Himesh Reshamiya. But Yuvraaj was a big Flop and PRDP will end up as a Blockbuster because When Yuvraaj got Released Salman had a bad time in his career and now he is having his best time.
Well moving ahead, finally after a long and testing time movie ended and it again went into the Deewane way. So, in short Script of Mr. Barjatya is extremely week and stale, Screenplay of Barjatya is repetitive mostly and tests your patience, Editing of Sanjay Sankla is the weakest, he could have easily made it crisper by 30 minutes atleast. Songs by Himesh Reshmiya are average, apart from Aaj Unse, Prem Ratan and Jalte diye every other song irritates you and they are too many. Sooraj Barjatya’s Direction is nice but definately not up to the mark. Now, coming to the positives, Art Direction is top notch, yes the sets are just wao!! Cinematography of V. Manikandan is extremely good and the locations where the film is shot are soothing to eyes and amazingly beautiful, the huge production value gave Manikandan the liberty to expand the canvas of the film. I cant say Salman as an actor is upto the mark in the film but his stardom and Charisma is undeniable and to be honest the entire movie is on his shoulders unlike Bajrangi Bhaijaan where Munni and Chand Nawab had their equal shares of glory, and he did his best to charm the audience. Another positive point goes in the favour of Salman is that he is trying to do films of different genres now after exploiting the same over the top bollywood masala genre since Dabbang got huge success. Sonam Kapoor too looked royal tried her best but again is uneffective as an actor. Neil Nitin Mukesh is strictly average, Arman Kohili looked Cringeworthy in a half baked role. Only Swara Bhasker and Experienced Anupam Kher did superbly well in their respective roles.
Yes, This film is far better than headache blockbusters of Salman such as Dabbang, Ready, Bodyguard, Kick, Jai Ho and Dabbang:2 but again we are not here to compare his past films and get happy if the current film is better. Sooraj Barjatya clearly missed the magic touch this time around as the entire film looked dated and pretentious. Though he never make great cinema but the honesty in his films always connected big time in the past and gave the industry couple of Mega hits (Maine Pyar kiya and Hum Aapke hai Kaun) and couple of Super Hits (Hum Saath Saath Hain and Vivah) this time also Salman’s Stardom will give him a Super Hit but he lost the honesty in film making and also he needs to upgrade himself with time, remember why Maine Pyar Kiya ran so well because of bringing modernity in cinema with honest and balanced Indian Emotions. One more thing, Salman tried another Yuvraaj just because of Sooraj and I want to ask them Why you guys made the film if you havent got anything new to say? Make a film if you really want to say something new to the audience otherwise dont make films. Dont try to recreate your old glory guys, Create something new which audience will make memorable just like they did in 90s. Now Please dont say this, Salman Khan films are not bothered by reviews and his films are for entertainment. We look up to Aamir, Salman, Shahrukh, Rajkumar Hirani, Sooraj Barjatya kind of Stalwarts to lead the path with new and examplary stuffs let Varuns, Ranbirs etc make mistakes and learn. You guys please surprise us with every other film and dont bore us.
PRDP is too long to watch for the 2nd time, Strictly one time watch that too in the holidays only. If you are working, please rest at home and Watch Yuvraaj on DVD(If you have it) Salman looked very good in that and he was very young then to make mistakes.
I’ll go with 2 stars.
