Phantom – The Most Underrated Movie Of The Year!!

Phantom – The Most Underrated Movie Of The Year!!

Yes, indeed this is a story you wish were true. Even I wish more people would have seen this film in the weekend, I wish it would have released on time without the delay, I wish it would have been promoted well.
I mean it, this is a very good, strong and entertaining popular cinema. A healthy fantasy action thriller. It is right up in the list of most earnest films of this year, based on the book ‘Mumbai Avengers’ about the aftermath of 26/11 Mumbai attacks. It is easy to say that converting this tough book on celluloid is difficult but Director Kabir Khan who also wrote the story and Screenplay with Parveez Shaikh did their best to make it entertaining and impactful. They also consulted about it with author Hussain Zaidi of the original book. I have read the book and its far more impactful because it had all the minor details of every target mission which Phantom executed but in popular commercial cinema you have to compromise for the sake of fast screenplay. Full marks to Kabir Khan for making a film filled with both Class and mass elements. First half is classy and second half specially in the climax even the front benchers will clap, whistle and hoot. You cant take your eyes off from the screen in the climax and the moment you see submarime with Indian flag, I am sure every Indian will get goose bumps (Even more if you have read the book). This movie could have been brilliant but it has some negatives too. I wish the past flashback of Phantom would have been edited. It was impactless and forced. Katrina Kaif is surely a barbie doll, treat to watch her face on screen but her bad acting made many scenes impactless. Even the start is hay wire too, RAW decides to begin a secret mission to kill people behind 26/11 Mumbai attacks whom India failed to arrest from last 7 years in a real hurry, again to make screenplay fast but rather made it weak.

But despite that its a nice thriller and deserve a watch. Saif ali Khan is superb as Daniyal Khan aka Phantom, focussed, clinical, Uber cool, stylish, James Bondish and precise, as the role demands. Katrina is good in parts and very ordinary in demanding scenes. Zeeshan Ayub is Top notch. Cinematography is absolutely fantastic, art direction is praise-worthy. All the sets are so real and locations of Chicago, London, Syria are grand. I want to say that the screenplay is very fast than Kabir Khan’s last Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The plot is little similar to Neeraj Pandey’s Baby but Phantom was made before it, but all thanks to the delay it released later. Watch it once atleast on DVD (This time on original one, say no to piracy) and you’ll not regret. Not only the film but the song ‘Afgan Jalebi’ and ‘Naa Humara Hua’ are underrated too, these songs are too good. It is really a fine action thriller which I wish could have been brilliant.
