Opinion: Superlative Anushka Sharma makes Pari a must watch.
Pari is the third film of Anushka Sharma as a producer and we need to give her credit for picking up ‘hatke’ films every single time. She makes movies only for certain sections be it NH10, Phillauri or Pari, again a horror film can’t be universal. Director Prosit Roy has created an ambience of shunned Indian myths and stories to build this utterly dark not so fairy tale. Roy has done a good job. Yes, the film is not overwhelming but again it is also far from being a disappointment. I don’t like Hindi horror films thanks to our incompetent filmmakers in this genre even I hardly like Hollywood horror films, as they only try to create frames to scare audiences and forgot about the story, as they all are same and clichéd. Thankfully in Pari the script of Prosit Roy and Abhishek Bannerjee has a lot of meat and is less cliché. Ram Gopal Verma’s Bhoot with clichés was the last good horror film I can remember all because it had great cast and was technically perfect, Pari falls in that category, I liked the film because of the performances and the lovely cinematography of Jishnu Bhattacharjee, unlike Bhoot the length here is an issue though.
Producer and Actor Anushka Sharma is the key of the film, she is superlative in her role and will take your breath away many times. Full marks to her and she alone made Pari a must watch. Bengali Star Parambrata Chatterjee has got a very role and he is very fresh and believable, Rajat Kapoor as usual is impactful, he is such an underrated actor of our country. Don’t want to give spoilers but the movie talks about love and its power, how even a satan’s daughter can change her real nature for love which worked for me. Many frames will remain with you, its a very new experience for cine lovers, maybe the diehard horror junkies will not like the film but for others it is a must watch, but strictly do not take your kids along, it is gory. So, I will go with 3.5 stars out of five.
