Opinion: Marvel’s Thor Ragnarok is an Unadulterated Entertainment Package.
Marvel Cinematic Universe is back and how, with Thor Ragnarok. With every next film Marvel tries to lift their cinematic art as far as the quality is concerned. Remember their last three films, Spiderman Homecoming, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 and Doctor Strange all were refreshingly good and this time they have gone even further and trust me I found the movie better than the two Avenger films. And that is so good because as a studio you need to outclass yourself every single time, that is the quest of film making, right? Thor Ragnarok is delicious and unadulterated entertainment, Marvel is the reigning emperor when it comes to CGI and VFX and here also they are pitch perfect. What makes them better than the DC universe or for that matter all the others is their hard work which they put in making all their characters extravagantly colorful and the screenplays mouth watering spectacles with stories to tell. All the credit should go to the screenplay of Eric Pearson, Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost, they are bang on here in Ragnarok and made it a rollercoaster ride of pure fun and delight. But what makes the third edition of Thor’s world even more impactful is the amusement the director Taika Waititi has brought into the scene. The film is throughout humorous and funny which makes the ride smoother. And the Background music, aha it is too good.
This is New Zealand born Taika Waititi’s first Hollywood film and he just owned the big superhero project, kudos to him and yes the major claps are stored for the actors. Chris Hemsworth as Thor is cooler than the coolest, handsome, effective and irreplaceable. Tom Hiddleston as Loki is one of the best things that Marvel has ever done, he is unpredictable as the mischievous God and rejuvenating. Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner ‘The Hulk’ has got some extremely great scenes with Hemsworth and definitely a major attraction of the film. Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie looks cute, deadly and sexy at the same time, Idris Alba as Heimdall plays his part with perfection. There’s a bit of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange too, which is clap worthy. And yes two important scenes of Anthony Hopkins as God Odin will make you happy, its always great to catch even a minute of the veteran actor on screen. Last but not the least, Cate Blanchett as Hella, the goddess of death is my pick from the movie. She is menacing yet vivacious, she is brutally cruel as the antagonist yet sensuous. I wonder if death is this beautiful then I am ‘turned on’ to end my life. Jokes apart, Blanchett has an unsaid charismatic screen presence which mesmerises you. I just loved the movie, definitely going to watch it for the second time next weekend. If you want to spend a sizeable time in the theatre which will pump you up with the ultimate form of Superhero fantasy then this is it. I am going with 4 stars.
