Mirzya and other last week’s releases bombed badly at the box office:
The releases of last week Mirzya, Tutak Tutak Tutiya, and MSG – The Warrior Lionheart have all fared poorly with the main release Mirzya being a huge disaster and looking at lifetime collections of just 10 crore nett approx as a huge drop is coming even though the new competition from films releasing this is weak. The film had a poor theatrical run over the week but collections on day one were still shocking despite the theatrical trailer made an impact on the viewers. It was a downhill story after that as the second day dropped even though it was a multiplex film. The first week collections of the three releases are as follows:
Mirzya – 9 cr.
Tutak Tutuk Tutiya – 2.5 cr
MSG: The Warrior Lionheart – 5.85 cr
The biggest disappointment was Mirzya as it faired so badly despite the names it had, like Gulzar and the director Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra himself. A broad, brash Bollywood romance, juggling Punjabi folklore with more contemporary Shakespearean allusions in its two-tiered narrative, it needed more attention and flavor which somehow the actors and the director missed.
MSDhoni The Untold Story added ₹ 27.35 cr in Week 2, taking the 2-week total to ₹ 121.48 cr nett in India including Hindi+Tamil+Telugu versions. The fall in collections suggests that it is not widely accepted by the masses and is looking to finish the lifetime business in 130-135 cr range, but enough to make a big Hit.
While the overseas business suggests to us that, it’ll end the run somewhere around $6 Million USD which is very good considering the fact that it has no big name in the star cast.
We’ll be back again with all the box office updates next week till then stay tuned.
