India Vs Pakistan Men’s Cricket World Cup History: India leads with 6-0

1992

Imran Khan led Pakistan won the 1992 World Cup but they lost to India led by Mohd. Azharuddin. India batted first and made 216/7 with Sachin Tendulkar top scoring with 54 not out. In reply, Pakistan’s opener Aamir Sohail made a quick fire 62 but after him, everyone fell like the pack of cards as they were bowled out for only 173. Kapil Dev and Srinath took two wickets each along with Tendulkar who took the crucial wicket of Sohail. People still remember the match because of Javed Miandad’s funny spat with Indian wicket-keeper Kiran More on the field.

1996

India again came to bat first and made a huge total of 287/8 in 50 overs, all thanks to Navjot Singh Sidhu who made 93 at the top and the Indian innings ended up with the brutal hitting of Ajay Jadeja who made 45 off just 25 balls. In reply, again Aamir Sohail, the then captain of the side along with Saeed Anwar made batting look so easy. Who can forget the fight between Sohail and Venkatesh Prasad and our very own Prasad had the last laugh over Pak-skipper. Pakistan managed to make only 248/9 with Prasad and Kumble bagging 3 wickets each.

1999

India batted first and for the third consecutive time under the captaincy of Mohd. Azharuddin defeated Pakistan in an ICC World Cup. Against the furious bowling of Wasim Akram led team India made a respectable total of 227/6 with ‘The Wall’ Rahul Dravid scoring a vital 61 and captain Azhar made 59. While chasing, Pakistan was not in the rhythm at all apart from Inzamam-Ul-Haq who made 41, nobody stood in front of Venkatesh Prasad who took his career best 5/27 in his 10 overs, ably supported by Srinath who took 3 wickets.

2003

Saurav Ganguly took over the Indian side as captain and Waqar Younis was his counterpart. Pakistan batted first and made 273/7 in 50 overs with Saeed Anwar making an awesome 101. In the second inning, Sachin Tendulkar had different plans as he smashed a swashbuckling 98 off just 75 balls. The rest work of the chase was done by Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh as the pair added unbeaten 99 runs for the 5th wicket and remained not out on 44 and 50 respectively, India won the match by 6 wickets.

2011

Fifth India vs Pakistan World Cup match took place in 2011 second semi-final where Afridi and Dhoni were keen to beat each other. India took the batting guard first and made 260/9 as Wahab Riaz took 5/46, only Sachin Tendulkar managed to make 85 off 115 balls, not a fluent one at all with three of his catches were being dropped. When Pakistan came to chase every Indian bowler contributed as they took wickets at the crucial stages. Zaheer, Nehra, Yuvraj, Harbhajan, and Munaf Patel all took 2 wickets each and only Misbah made 56 which was a defensive knock but led them to a respectable total of 231, India won the match by 29 runs.

It was the second time Dhoni led India in World Cup and Misbah took over as the Pakistan captain but history repeated itself and India once again defeated Pakistan to lead with 6-0 in CWC clashes against the arch-rivals. India made 300/7 with King Kohli making 107 off 126 balls, Dhawan and Raina contributed with 73 and 74 respectively. Pakistan’s Sohail Khan took 5/55 but their batsmen let them down again. They were all out for 224 only Skipper Misbah made a stylish 76 but that was not enough. India’s Shami produced a match-winning spell of 4/35.

So what’s next? Just a few hours to go, 7-0 in the making?
